My name is James Fraser. I am 26 years old and have had an interest in gold for several years. It all started back in university when I started investing in mining stocks with leftover earnings from a summer sales job. Why mining stocks?. I could not honestly tell you as I had no previous interest in rocks maybe because Vancouver is home to 90% of the mining companies on the TSX venture (TSX-V).
I still remember one of my first investment Ocean Resources Inc (OCRI) on the otc bb in the United States. Ocean Resources was developing a new technology to extract minerals from the bottom of the ocean. To make a long story short I ended up losing money as Ocean Resources went bankrupt and does not even exist anymore. This taught me investing lesson number 1: Do not invest on the OTC BB in the US (the majority of companies are scams).
I would'nt give up though and continued to learn and invest in mining companies. I started investing on the TSX-V home of the junior mining companies. While finding little matieral online on how to trade mining stocks I created an online e-book Mining Stocks Investor Guide. After writing the first couple versions a good friend of mine Kevin Pederson decided to become a partner in the project. Kevin was like me and had been investing in mining stocks for several years. With Kevins help and many long hours the ebook was re-written an taken to the next level (Thanks Kevin!).
Since university I have continued to invest in mining stocks. Pretty much every stock I trade is a commodity related stock on the TSX or TSX venture. Most people would say these are risky stocks but with the risk comes high reward. I would take them over a mutua fund any day. A good return on a mutual fund is 5% in a year you can do that in 1 day on a mining stock! My favourite stocks to invest in are gold stocks. I am a long term gold bull and believe gold is only headed much higher in the future. As the US government continues to print paper and dive deeper in debt.
All this has lead me to my latest adventure placer gold mining. I met Les Adams about a month ago online. He was looking for an investor to get some equipment to get a placer mine up and running. After completing extensive due dilligence I decided what the heck lets give it a shot. Worst case scenaio I would lose money and have a crazy story while best case scenario is we actually find some yellow. To be honest I probably could make more trading mining stocks this summer but it will be worth the experience. As my friends will tell you I am a big believer of loving your work. You only live once and its not for long so enjoy life.
Its my hope that my blog helps you learn something new or just simply makes you laugh or smile.
Looking forward to your comments.
All the best,
Gold Miner James
